The Irish dancing dog in today’s video obviously doesn’t have four left feet. It’s hard enough for humans to learn Irish step dancing, so I don’t know how someone managed to teach a dog that skill!

Dancing Panther

I’ve never taught a dog to dance, but I did have a short and glorious career as a dancing panther, many, many years ago.

Once a week, a small group of rowdy boys gathered for an acrobatics class, and very little was learned. At the end of the year, there was a recital, where we dressed in our panther costumes, and showed off how little we remembered.

The highlight of our acrobatic routine was the fight that broke out in the middle of the performance. It was a good distraction though, and nobody noticed how badly we were dancing/tumbling.

If you’ve ever been in a recital, you know that there are pictures, so here’s a photo of me in my panther costume, complete with a manly panther tail. Thanks, Mom!

And yes, my growling-for-the-camera skills were way better than my dancing-on-stage skills.

Unlike me and my fellow acrobats, the Australian Shepherd in this video is an accomplished dancer.

He does an amazing job of Irish step dancing with his human partner. He knows all the steps, and they dance really well together, without stepping on each other’s toes, or tripping over one another.

And unlike my acrobatic panther group, none of the performers got into a fight during the performance in this video!
